Why redesign a site? The simple answer is because it is needed. Customer feedback, focus group results, and server log files that track site use can indicate when redesign is required. Widespread adoption of larger monitors, faster modems, updated graphical browsers, new applications software, and changes in competitor's sites also are reasons to consider site redesign. Site redesign varies from a simple touchup of several pages to a complete site overhaul and relaunch.

On the Web, content is king, and its shelf life varies. Content is what visitors seek at a site, and fresh content keeps them coming back. Content online refers to both verbal (text) and nonverbal elements. Verbal contents include newspaper stories, product descriptions, magazine articles, travel schedules, and the like. Nonverbal content includes images and graphics, and interactive devices such as insurance and mortgage calculators, news, weather, and sport tickers.

Implementing Privacy and Security

These are primary concerns of consumer and enterprise buyers alike. Some sites post short privacy statements on their front page; most have links from the front page to privacy statement pages within the site. Although these statements will not drive traffic to your site, they can potentially drive customers from your site if privacy assurance is absent or misleading. Consumers are far more likely to stay on a site and surrender some personal information if prominant privacy and security statements are displayed.
